Important Safety Message Regarding Off-Campus Incident on June 18, 2025

Dear Waianae High School Ohana,

I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred this morning across the street from our campus involving two of our female students and an adult male. An adult male reportedly approached the two female students, and an alleged altercation took place. Thankfully, a good Samaritan driving by witnessed the situation and quickly intervened, picking up the students and bringing them safely to the high school. Our staff immediately reunited the students with their parents and worked with authorities to identify the male suspect involved.

We are incredibly grateful to the good Samaritan for their quick thinking and assistance. This incident serves as a serious reminder for all of us to remain vigilant and prioritize safety, even off c a m p u s .We want to share a few important tips for personal safety and awareness:
• Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Pay attention to who is around you, especially when walking alone or in isolated areas. Avoid distractions like headphones or cell phones that
might limit your awareness.

• Trust Your Instincts: If a situation or person makes you feel uneasy, remove yourself from the situation. Your gut feeling is often a good indicator of potential danger.
• Know Your Safe Places: Identify trusted adults, businesses, or public places where you can go if you feel unsafe or need help.
• Report Suspicious Activity: If you see something that doesn't seem right, report it immediately to a trusted adult, school staff, or law enforcement.
