Dear Wai‘anae High School ‘ohana,

We are writing to share a brief update on the that we previously communicated with families about earlier this school year. After additional planning and coordination between the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education and the Honolulu Police Department, we anticipate that the pilot will begin at Wai‘anae High next week.

As a reminder, the purpose of this pilot is to strengthen safety and support on campus while

building positive relationships between students and officers. The assigned School Resource

Officer will serve as a mentor and trusted adult, focusing on relationship-building, student

well-being, and engagement with school programs and activities.

At Wai‘anae High School, this pilot supports ongoing efforts to build career pathways for

students and strengthen connections between education and community partners.

We also want families to be aware that the Department and HPD plan to make a public

announcement next week to inform the broader community about the launch of this pilot

program at three O‘ahu high schools.

Mahalo for your patience as this initiative moved through the planning process. If you have any

questions, please feel free to contact our school office at 808-697-9400.

Sincerely,

Ray Pikelny-Cook

Principal
